I've read a lot about this online pertaining to a remington 770 bolt action rifle. I was putting a new stock on it and as i wiped her down i noticed the bolt was locked halfway.

If the shell won't come out, (i think) the problem is the shell stop. If so, you need to hook the cocking piece on something solid (like a block of wood) pull it back and rotate the bolt shroud back into the cocked position.

I know its a economy rifle but still, that is dangerous and shame on remington. Btw, always run the pad of your little finger tip through the ejection port into the bolt and lug channels of the action, feeling for bolt/screw protrusions before even installing the bolt.

I Had It Out Of The Safe To Look At It Tonight, And Discovered That The Slide Does Not Lock Up Solid When I Rack It.

My friends 770, we were at the range and i went to eject a spent shell, and the whole bolt assembly came out and fell appart, on futher inspection there were metal chips out of the bolt release.
